What is this butterfly baker-tool used for???

See the cast-iron butterfly in this photo? What the heck is it used for? It looks to me like a really small branding-iron (e.g., the kind to brand cattle with) but I bought it from the kitchen at an estate sale.

As always, you may click on the photo to enlarge it.

Perhaps the butterfly is used to brand toast or maybe the cook uses it as some sort of fancy pastry press???

The handle is not at all insulated and it screws on like the really antique kitchen tools do . . .

{Readers help me with this description. Can you??? I'm hoping to unload some stuff on eBay.}

Thanks.

That's for making "rosettes". I have a great recipe. The Rosette/Butterfly taste a lot like Funnel Cake at the fair, except it's "made" in shapes. Great stuff. I bought the tools on purpose! Hold onto it, you might like it.

Recipe available when stuff comes out of storage. (I've put it on my list to get the recipe to you.)

Looks like the hook on the opposite end might play some important task--lid remover, nostril-digger (ok, j/k on the latter...)
Seriously. May be a cookie/pastry stamp, too...
Picker-upper gots my vote...

I thought it might be for sugaring pies or something. I wouldn't have guessed rosettes!

I don't know what a Rosette is, but you might dip that thing in batter, then in hot oil, to make little pastry butterflies.

Scotty's overly cute companion has got to go.

Any Brief on the LongRidgeWritersGroup? Someone was just looking for a school, and it was mentioned. I've found a twentieth century deity, probably a higher grade in earlier incarnations, and she's presenty looking for a publisher, who wants to provide both an advance, and a ghost.

My mom had stuff like that but it escapes me as to what it is for...I'm not going to cheat and google it either. I'll call mom and ask.

Better and more personal.

Thank you,
Bobby

Wow, Rosettes. Who knew? I was totally stumped. But that stuff looks so cool. An antique collector will love that stuff. Thanks for the link on the moth. I'm going to check it out now.

I could swear I wrote a reply to everyone a coupe of days ago (but it's not showing). THANK YOU BREATHE-E for identifying the mystery item.

Thank you everyone else too. You are way cool to comment!
